Many times women make some big mistakes when they pick on MLM.  They think they making a wise decision but months later, when they have spent a lot of money and made nothing, they wonder why it didn’t work out.

Big Mistake #1:

Picking a “Good” Product

Having a good product does not and never will assure that you make a profit.

How can that be?

Isn’t it true that what you sell makes all the difference?  No, not true.  Not when you are looking at profit.

Think about it… have you ever chosen a business based on a great product and not made any money.  Sure you have.  We all have.   Maybe you even still have boxes of that product still in your garage… unsold.  Hmmm, why is that?

Well maybe you jumped into that business opportunity because you had confidence in the product. You wanted others to have the same benefits as you. That product was good quality and could really help others.

So, why did you fail?  I’ll tell you why.

Many amazing products sit on the shelf.  The old saying of “build a better mouse trap and they will beat a path to your door” just isn’t true.

Good products have to be SOLD!   Ohhh, I can hear your groans now. Yes, sold. Selling is involved.

Just to prove this to you let’s think of it in reverse.  Have you ever made a purchase because the marketing was so incredible you just had to have it?  Well, who hasn’t?  Like the magic lotion that will erase wrinkles in 3 weeks.  You are drooling over it.  You can’t wait until it arrives and every day you look in the mirror to see if you can tell the difference.  Did it work?   You guessed it.  Nope.  But you were so excited when you saw that ad.  You couldn’t get your credit card out fast enough. It doesn’t make sense.

Oh, yes it does make perfect sense.

Products sell and company’s profit when “effective” marketing is in place.

Would it be better if the product was great and really was “as promised”?   No question that would be better.  I see you nodding your head.

If it makes sense how a product can be sold in volumes with excellent marketing, then it should also make sense that the best product in the world will just sit on the shelf if that effective “I-cannot-wait-to-get-my-hands-on-that-product” marketing is NOT in place.

BIG MISTAKE #2

Picking a “Good” Pay Plan

Having a knock-your-socks-off pay plan does not and never will assure you make a dime.

How can that be?

You have been there …  You see the comp plan of a particular business.  You sketch it out.  Go over it a couple times.

Suddenly, you realize how much money you could make and exactly how you are going to make it.    You can feel the thrill!  You start mentally spending!   But wait ….  How can that fail?  The comp plan works, right?

Well sure, “if” your market is buying from you.  And “if” you can get a team together that doesn’t quit, is actually willing to work, is coachable and here’s the biggie – gets results!

I know you’re thinking, “It doesn’t sound so easy anymore.  How am I going to do all that?”  You feel the weight on your shoulders.  You feel the pressure of all you have to accomplish.

So, if you choose your MLM based on the comp plan you may be setting yourself up for a big letdown.  The bigger the comp plan, the bigger the letdown.  Isn’t it good to have a comp plan that pays well?  Yes.  But it only pays if some other VERY important things are in place.
